A kind of adulteration of the olive oil consists of the addition to it of an amount of cotton seed oil which previously has been treated with benzoyl peroxide. The treatment is done in purpose to destroy by an oxidation function; the Bellier test of the seed oil. The oxidation is run as follows : the seed oil, after the addition of benzoyl peroxide in a proportion of about 1%o , is heated up to 70oC for a period of 5 to 10 minutes. A small amount of cacao oil is added to the above treated oil to lower its refractive index. The product is known in the greek market with the name "negative" or "nylon oil" and is used in mixtures with searched and found in the samples of the adulterated olive oil as a remainder of benzoyl peroxide after its function upon seed oil.
Προτείνεται νέα μέθοδος ανιχνεύσεως νοθείας ελαιολάδου για σπορέλαια τύπου Νάϋλον. Η έρευνα του θέματος στρέφεται στην τυχόν παρουσία βενζοϊκού οξέος στην αγορά ελαιολάδου. Γίνεται μια ιστορική ανασκόπηση, τα επιτεύγματα της προτεινόμενης μεθόδου, περιγράφεται η τεχνική της και επιβεβαιώνεται η παρουσία του βενζοϊκού οξέος.
