This calcimeter is an application of the manometer's principle used open or closed according the case. It consists of a flask for the evolution of carbonic acid which communicates with another flask containing a quantity of water at the surface of which floats a small quantity of paraffin oil. The whole free capacity is 1500 c.c. With this apparatus it is possible to determine calcium carbonate in soils from 0-100%. It gives satisfactory approximation for agricultural purposes. For accurate results the two flasks must be submerged in water and correction of temperature and pression made.
