An accurate method for the gravimetric and volumetric estimation of gold has been developed, based on the reduction of gold chloride by ascorbic acid. Ascorbic acid as precipitating agent of gold is superior to oxalic acid, ferrous chloride and to the other reagents. This method has been found to be uneffected by the presence of copper. From the various experiments that were carried out it has been proved that the ascorbic acid is an excellent reagent for the detection and estimation of gold.
