The island of Cyprus famous in ancient times for its copper production and well known nowadays, as an important mining center, is currently facing acute research problems. The sulphide deposits which were the support for its copper production during ancient times and constituted the main source of wealth for the island during the current century, are running low. As a result, production has fallen and especially in the case of ores containing copper, the extraction of which has virtually ceased over the last 10 years. This study presents certain observations concerning the ore carrying horizon, the control, the location and the form of the sulphide deposits. Furthermore, some views are offered, that might lead to practical results i.e. that might help the setting up of more efficient research programs which are an indispensable must in the struggle to reinforce the run
down ore reserves.
Προβάλλονται παρατηρήσεις σχετιζόμενες με τα χαρακτηριστικά της θειούχου μεταλλοφορίας κοιτασμάτων που βρίσκονται στον ορεινό όγκο του Τρόοδους και εντοπίζονται σε συγκεκριμένο ορίζοντα του, τις pillow-λάβες. Επίσης εκφράζονται απόψεις που μπορούν να έχουν πρακτική σημασία κατά τη μελέτη και τη διεξαγωγή έρευνας με σκοπό την ενίσχυση των αποθεμάτων.
