George Pletho Gemistos is considered to be the link between the traditional platonism in Byzantian and the philosophical development in the Renaissance in the west during 15th century.
His mostly known work "De differentis" impressed a few eminent scholars in Italy at that time but real influence had an impact on next generation like Lorenzo Valla and Nicholas Cusanus even though platonic ideas in the west were declared against the church.
It is common knowledge that platonic works have deeply in fluenced the art and the literature of Renaissance's Italy and without doubt George Pletho Gemistos stood at the point of intersection between the Byzantine and the western Renaissance.
Ο Γεώργιος Γεμιστός (Πλήθωνας) θεωρείται ο σύνδεσμος μεταξύ του παραδοσιακού πλατωνισμού στο Βυζάντιο και της φιλοσοφικής ανάπτυξης της Αναγέννησης στη Δύση, τον 15ο αι.
